What Psychotherapy Services Do I Offer?
I offer individual psychotherapy that is oriented toward the specific issues that you are dealing with; whether they be situational changes in your life, such as loss of relationship, changes in work or evolving spiritual issues; or whether the problems you want help with are more long standing, originating in childhood. The bases of most of our difficulties in life are a result of clinging to inaccurate beliefs and feelings about our self and others that we have come to live by but which actually cause us suffering. These beliefs are not our fault but now are our responsibilities. I can help you deal compassionately with these inaccurate and restrictive beliefs and lead a more open and free life.
Through the psychotherapeutic practices of mindfulness and compassion, we can more accurately and skillfully loosen the painful restrictions of our beliefs and find a deeper truth that has a foundation in acceptance and compassion. From that self acceptance and love we can begin to see more clearly our life; what we value and the steps we need to take in our life for satisfaction and fulfillment. Together, we can engage in steps of commitment and action that are in alignment with our heart's intentions, leading to more joy in life.
When a patient is interested I can also teach the ancient and yet very contemporary skills of Buddhist Zen mindfulness meditation, to help patients be more in the present moment, accept life as it is, and experience the richness of life. Buddhist Zen mindfulness also allows us to accept and deal with the inevitable disappointments, losses, disregards, and painful inevitabilities of life, without loosing our passion for living. As Buddha realized in his First Noble True "Life is painful." But he also offered a way out of the restrictive suffering we tend to get into during painful times.
